Detection of sulfur oxidizing bacteria
These are sulfur bacteria that give usually facultative systems a purple or pink color. They are strictly anaerobic photolithotrophic organisms that use reduced sulfur compounds, with assimilation of sunlight, in their bacterial photosynthesis. This condition can interfere with the microbial system at the treatment site, in addition to increasing turbidity and COD, impairing the performance of the treatment system. Effective actions must be taken, and periodic monitoring must be carried out in order to avoid their predominance, thus harming the treatment system.
