Detection of filamentous bacteria

Filamentous bacteria play a key role in the formation of the biological flake, as they provide the backbone around which particles accumulate and structure. Its presence contributes positively to flake formation, when present in balanced amounts. Its overgrowth and predominance in systems can cause sludge bulking and foaming.

Maintaining the biological tank’s environmental conditions, such as pH, dissolved oxygen and adequate nutrients are essential to keep the filamentous bacteria in balance and prevent their overgrowth. This is an important parameter to be monitored periodically to avoid its predominance in systems and problems related to sludge sedimentation.
